When we move, we usually focus on what\u2019s next\u2014boxes, paperwork, logistics\u2014treating our old homes like shells we\u2019ve outgrown. But when I had to leave the small apartment that carried me through years of change, it felt like more than a lease ending. It had been my refuge during a lonely, uncertain time in a new city. Leaving it carelessly felt wrong.<\/p>\n

So I didn\u2019t just pack\u2014I cleaned. I scrubbed the floors, wiped every cabinet, polished the windows, and cleared the dust from every corner. It wasn\u2019t about the security deposit.
