Support should come from family, but sometimes it doesn\u2019t\u2014not out of cruelty, but ignorance.<\/p>\n

When my 13-year-old daughter got her first period, she was nervous but ready to learn. Instead, she faced my husband\u2019s and sons\u2019 ignorance. After seeing a used pad in the trash, they were \u201cshocked.\u201d My husband told her to hide her pads, and the boys avoided her like she was contagious.<\/p>\n

The worst moment came when my husband asked her to stay in her room during her period because her brothers felt \u201cuncomfortable.\u201d She quietly obeyed, as if she\u2019d done something wrong.<\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t stay silent. I explained that menstruation is a normal part of growing up and that discomfort should lead to learning, not avoidance. We talked about respect and empathy.<\/p>\n

When my daughter joined us, her brothers admitted they were just awkward and unsure how to react. By the end, they even asked how they could help her feel better during those days.<\/p>\n

My daughter felt relieved. My husband apologized and bought her favorite ice cream, admitting he\u2019d never learned to talk about these things growing up.<\/p>\n

It was a small step toward a family choosing compassion and openness over ignorance and discomfort.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
