Yesterday I unexpectedly called off work to take my mom to urgent care after she suddenly felt unwell. In the waiting room I was worried, even though she tried to reassure me.<\/p>\n
Then my boss texted: \u201cI\u2019m disappointed in you.\u201d Another message followed saying my parents weren\u2019t that old and his only called him in ambulance-level emergencies. It felt like he was belittling my mom\u2019s health.<\/p>\n
Trying to stay calm while my scared mom leaned on me, I replied:

Later, tests showed her condition was treatable and not life-threatening, which was a huge relief. My boss never responded, but I didn\u2019t regret my choice.<\/p>\n
