No answer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Panicking, I called my brother. He rushed over and drove me to the hospital, staying by my side through the pain. In the delivery room, he held my hand until complications forced doctors to step in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Hours later, my phone rang\u2014my husband.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">My brother answered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cShe didn\u2019t make it,\u201d he said, and hung up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">I lay there, numb, believing I\u2019d been abandoned. But I was alive. Our baby was alive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Two hours later, my husband burst in, shaking and broken. He fell beside me, sobbing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\u201cI thought you were gone. No signal at work\u2014I didn\u2019t know. I\u2019m so sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">My brother admitted he lied\u2014to make him feel the pain of being ignored.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Silence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Then my husband took my hand. \u201cI\u2019ll never fail you like that again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Healing took time.
