At 32, I thought I could spot a disaster before it happened. Turns out, I just really wanted this date to go well.<\/p>\n

I matched with Chloe on a dating app. She was witty, confident, and suggested we do something \u201cspecial\u201d for our first date. Before agreeing, I made one thing clear: I always split the bill on first dates. She replied, \u201cThat\u2019s fair!\u201d<\/p>\n

We split the bill by individual meal. Chloe\u2019s card was declined the first time, but eventually it went through. She left angry. I left relieved.<\/p>\n
