Ticks are small parasites that feed on blood and can attach to humans or animals, often hiding in grass, woods, or on pets. Their bites are usually painless, so many people don\u2019t notice them right away. While some bites only cause mild redness or itching, ticks can sometimes spread serious illnesses like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Symptoms to watch for include fever, headache, fatigue, muscle or joint pain, swollen lymph nodes, or a spreading rash.<\/p>\n

If you find a tick, remove it carefully with fine-tipped tweezers by pulling straight upward without twisting or crushing it. Then clean the area with soap, water, or alcohol. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms develop, such as fever, breathing problems, weakness, chest pain, or a worsening rash.
