I’m Dorothy, and Christmas is my favourite time of year. My husband, Jerry, and I have an eight-year-old daughter, Ruth. Each December, Ruth writes a letter to Santa and places it in the freezer, believing that’s how mail reaches the North Pole.<\/p>\n

This year, Ruth asked for heart-shaped earrings like the ones our nanny, Gloria, wears. Confused, I discovered Jerry had given Gloria these earrings, a gift from his late best friend, Brian, who had asked Jerry to look after Gloria after his passing.<\/p>\n

Jerry had been fulfilling Brian’s wishes by giving Gloria gifts for special occasions. I was upset he hadn’t shared this sooner. Gloria hadn’t mentioned it either, not wanting to cause trouble.<\/p>\n

We explained the situation to Ruth, and on Christmas morning, she received her own heart-shaped earrings from Santa. The earrings symbolised love, promises, and the strength of our family.<\/p>\n
