Abandoned and starving, they have no one. Though the boy\u6050s hearing \u201cpolice,\u201d Nicol\u00e1s refuses to walk away.<\/p>\n<p>He takes them to a caf\u00e9, feeds them, and for the first time in ages feels needed\u2014not as a businessman, but as a human. Despite mistakes, he learns diapers, bottles, lullabies, all with Adri\u00e1n\u2019s quiet help. When told their mother\u2014alive but in rehab\u2014might reclaim them, Adri\u00e1n worries they\u2019ll be separated again. Nicol\u00e1s promises, <strong>\u201cI won\u2019t leave you. I promise. Never.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He decides to adopt, buys a home, and gives the children stability, laughter, security. Adoption finalized in spring, Luc\u00eda\u2019s first word is \u201cDad,\u201d and Adri\u00e1n calls him \u201cDad\u201d at bedtime. Nicol\u00e1s realizes he never planned to be a father, but now he can\u2019t imagine life without them.
