I always knew my future mother-in-law, Linda, didn\u2019t like me. She thought Alex should marry someone \u201cbetter,\u201d and no matter how polite I was, she never warmed up to me.<\/p>\n

The day before our wedding, our $1,000 custom lemon-raspberry cake was delivered to her house because it was closer to the venue. When I arrived after running errands, I found crumbs everywhere\u2026 and the cake box completely empty.<\/p>\n

Linda and her friends were lounging in the living room, lips stained with raspberry filling.
\n\u201cWhere\u2019s the cake?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n
