I Came Home to Find My Daughter and Babysitter Missing — the AirTag Showed She Was at the Airport

In 40 years, I never imagined my life would turn into something out of a suspense novel, but last Friday it did. Here’s the background:

Two years ago, my messy divorce with Daniel was complicated by his mother, Brenda, who hated me. She made sure I knew it every chance she got. Since then, I only dealt with her when it involved my daughter, Lily, who was five and the most important thing in my life.

Earlier that week, Lily caught a mild cold, and since daycare wouldn’t take sick kids, I had my trusted babysitter, Jessica, look after her. Everything seemed fine until Friday evening when I came home and found the house eerily quiet. Jessica and Lily were nowhere to be found, and after trying to reach Jessica with no luck, I checked Lily’s pink backpack—always with her—and saw it was at the airport!

Panic set in. I rushed to the airport, and when I arrived, I saw Jessica, Daniel, and Brenda. My daughter was there, and Brenda smiled smugly. They were planning to take Lily out of state, without telling me, under the guise of “treatment.” It was a kidnapping scheme.

Jessica had been tricked, and I immediately confronted them. Airport security stepped in, and they were soon questioned. Brenda and Daniel tried to justify their actions, but I made it clear they had crossed a line. As I walked away with Lily, I vowed they’d never try something like this again.
