My ex-husband once called asking for four months off child support so he could save money for a Disney trip with his wife and daughter. I was stunned that our son’s needs were being compared to a vacation.
Instead of arguing, I simply said, “Okay.”
On visitation day, he expected me to drop off our son as usual. Instead, I brought a large case and left it at his door. Excited, he opened it—then his smile disappeared.
Inside were receipts for everything I had paid alone: school, medical bills, clothes, food, and more. On top was a note:
“This is what raising a child costs. Our son deserves stability more than a vacation.”
His wife looked over his shoulder, suddenly quiet.
From that day on, he never asked for a break again. He started showing up—not just financially, but emotionally too.
Sometimes the strongest message isn’t said out loud. It’s shown.
