Major US airport on red alert as passenger is diagnosed with world’s most infectious disease

An infected adult spent time in Terminal 1 on April 22–23 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., potentially exposing many travelers at one of the world’s busiest airports. The person had received one dose of the MMR vaccine but later developed a rash on April 25, and tests confirmed measles.

The patient is now isolating at home. A second case was later identified in another adult from the same county in Illinois, whose vaccination status is unknown. They sought treatment at a local hospital on April 28 and were quickly isolated.

Officials urge anyone who may have been exposed to contact their healthcare provider and watch for symptoms as measles concerns continue to affect major U.S. airports.
