Just found out from a former McDonalds employee that you should always ask for a receipt when you order!

Most people see a receipt as useless, but in places like McDonald’s, it can subtly change how your order is handled.

Employees are trained to watch for “mystery shoppers” (often called Gapbusters)—people who secretly evaluate service, food quality, and cleanliness. Since they can’t tell who’s who, certain behaviors—like asking for a receipt—can raise suspicion.

That small request can make staff more careful: double-checking orders, using fresher ingredients, and paying closer attention to detail. It’s not guaranteed, but it can lead to slightly better service.

Plus, the receipt gives you proof if something’s wrong.

So while it seems minor, asking for a receipt can quietly improve both your order and your experience.
