DIY Jewelry Cleaner Guide

Jewelry can lose its shine over time due to air, moisture, and everyday products—but this doesn’t have to be permanent. You can easily restore its brilliance at home using simple ingredients.

A proven method uses baking soda, salt, dish soap, aluminum foil, and hot water. This creates a gentle chemical reaction that lifts tarnish from the metal and transfers it to the foil, cleaning the jewelry without harsh scrubbing.

To do this, line a bowl with foil (shiny side up), add hot water, then mix in baking soda, salt, and a few drops of dish soap. Place the jewelry so it touches the foil. Within minutes, tarnish begins to lift—light pieces clean quickly, while heavier tarnish may take up to 10 minutes.

Be careful with delicate items like pearls or glued gemstones, as they may require gentler cleaning methods.
