My Husband Demanded I Pay All Our Bills Because He Was ‘Saving up for Our Future’

My husband, Jake, and I always split everything 50/50—rent, bills, groceries—until two weeks ago when he shocked me at dinner. He casually suggested that I cover all the expenses so he could save for our future, while he kept his paycheck for savings. I was taken aback, as I already handled most household chores.

Then, I got a call from Anna, Jake’s girlfriend, claiming he’d been complaining about me and using me for money. She wanted me to “let him go.” I couldn’t decide whether she was lying or telling the truth, but something felt off, especially after Jake’s recent behavior.

I decided to play along. I told him I’d take over the bills, then secretly drained our savings, canceled utilities, and arranged to move out. When Jake realized what had happened, I told him I was downsizing and transferred all our savings into my account as “compensation” for my unpaid work. I walked out, leaving him with nothing.

Two weeks later, I’m enjoying my new, peaceful life in a cozy apartment while Jake struggles to find a place to stay. His girlfriend dumped him when she found out he had no money left. I heard through friends that he was blaming me for everything. I couldn’t help but laugh. Finally, I felt free, and for the first time, I was excited about my own future.
