Immigrant who killed three in Georgia shooting – including DHS employee – found dead in jail cell

A suspected killer died before ever facing a jury, leaving a case—and a community—without answers. Three people had been killed, and Georgia was already on edge. Then, without warning, the accused was found dead in a jail cell, with no clear cause.

Olaolukitan Adon‑Abel had appeared in court in shackles, accused of a series of violent attacks: a woman ambushed outside a restaurant, a homeless man shot while sleeping, and a Department of Homeland Security employee attacked while walking her dog. Prosecutors described a troubled past and escalating violence.

Now, his sudden death in a DeKalb County jail has ended any chance of trial. There will be no testimony, no verdict—only an autopsy and investigation. For the victims’ families, the loss is compounded by the absence of closure, leaving grief without answers.
