The hotpot divorce: Why I ended my marriage six hours after giving birth

After giving birth, Claire expected support from her husband Daniel, but instead he told her to take the bus home while he celebrated with his family at a hotpot restaurant. His mother Elaine mocked her pain, and his sister Melissa dismissed childbirth like it was nothing.

What Daniel’s family didn’t know was that Claire secretly owned the company they thought she only worked for. She had also discovered Daniel had been stealing money from her accounts to fund gambling and trips with friends.

When Daniel abandoned her in the hospital, something inside Claire changed. She called her lawyer and ordered him to freeze Daniel’s access to everything — bank accounts, the SUV, the house, and company funds.

While Daniel and his family enjoyed dinner posting “Family First” photos online, their cards were suddenly declined, the SUV was disabled, and panic set in. Daniel called Claire begging for help, but she calmly told him she was done paying for a life he never earned.

The next morning, Daniel and his family showed up at the hospital pretending it was all a misunderstanding. Instead, Claire handed him divorce papers and launched a forensic investigation into the stolen money.

Six months later, Claire and her son were finally living peacefully, free from manipulation and disrespect. She realized the hardest part wasn’t leaving the marriage — it was staying in it for so long.
