I Had No Idea What Apple Cider Vinegar Would Do for My Hair Until I Left It In Overnight

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) has long been used as a natural remedy for hair care. Known for balancing scalp pH, removing product build-up, reducing dandruff, and boosting shine, it’s become a popular alternative to chemical treatments.

Curious about the hype, I tried leaving diluted ACV in my hair overnight. I mixed equal parts raw, unfiltered ACV and water, applied it with a spray bottle, massaged it into my scalp, covered my hair with a shower cap, and slept with a towel on my pillow.

By morning, after rinsing and lightly shampooing, my hair felt noticeably softer, shinier, and smoother. My scalp also felt cleaner and less itchy, and the usual product residue seemed gone.

The experience showed me that ACV can refresh both scalp and hair naturally, though it’s not a miracle cure. To use it safely:

  • Always dilute ACV with water
  • Do a patch test first
  • Use only once or twice a week
  • Follow with conditioner for moisture
  • Choose raw, unfiltered ACV with “the mother”

Compared to harsh clarifying shampoos, ACV cleans gently and pairs well with conditioners and hair oils. It’s affordable, natural, and surprisingly effective for dull or irritated hair.

For me, the overnight treatment was worth trying—and a reminder that simple pantry remedies can still work wonders.
