A painf/ul skin sore with a dark center can look scary, especially if it’s getting worse quickly. While some bites or infections may cause this, many cases turn out to be less serious — but any fast-changing wound should be taken seriously.
Watch for swelling, darkening color, worsening pain, fever, chills, nausea, or trouble breathing. Clean the area gently, use a cool compress, keep the leg elevated, and avoid cutting or applying harsh substances.
