A peaceful late-night buggy ride near Berne, Indiana, turned tragic when a Jeep crashed into a horse-drawn Amish buggy carrying nine people on State Road 218. The impact shattered the buggy and threw nearly everyone onto the roadway.
Seven people, including several children, were injured. The buggy driver was airlifted to the hospital, while others were taken by ambulance. Authorities said the Jeep struck the buggy from behind around 11:20 p.m. on October 7.
The Amish community is now rallying around the family with prayers, meals, rides, and support while they recover. The crash also serves as another reminder of the dangers Amish families face sharing dark rural roads with fast-moving traffic.
