For years, I thought doing laundry was simple: add clothes, detergent, start the machine. But my clothes still came out stiff, faded, or smelling musty. Eventually, I realized the problem wasn’t the detergent or washer—it was the detergent drawer.
Over time, soap, fabric softener, and moisture build up inside the dispenser, causing odors, mold, and poor cleaning performance. Once I removed the drawer and gave it a deep clean with warm water, soap, and a toothbrush, the difference was immediate.
I also learned what each compartment means:
- “I” = pre-wash detergent
- “II” = main detergent
- Flower symbol = fabric softener
I had been pouring detergent directly into the drum, which prevented proper distribution. Using the dispenser correctly helped my clothes come out cleaner, softer, and fresher.
Another mistake is using too much detergent. Overfilling creates residue, blockages, and poor rinsing. Following the fill lines works much better.
Now I clean the detergent drawer every few weeks. It takes less than ten minutes, keeps the washer running efficiently, and makes laundry smell truly fresh again.
Sometimes the smallest household habits make the biggest difference.
