“SSSS” on a boarding pass stands for “Secondary Security Screening Selection.” It means TSA selected you for extra screening before your flight.
You may get:
- Extra bag checks
- Hand swabs for explosives
- Additional questions or pat-downs
It usually adds only a few extra minutes at security.
Most of the time, SSSS is random, though it can also happen because of last-minute bookings, international travel, or name matches with watchlists.
It does not mean you’re a criminal or under investigation. Arrive early, stay calm, and once screening is done, you continue normally.
