Some betrayals don’t hide—they happen right in front of you while you’re too blinded by love to see them. That’s what happened to me. I’m Cassie, 35, married to Ben, 38, for seven years. We had a good life, though we didn’t have kids because of my struggle with endometriosis. Ben was caring and attentive—he remembered anniversaries, took me to doctor’s appointments, and even recreated our first date on our fifth anniversary.
Things changed when Ben’s mother, Sharon, had a mild stroke and needed help. We invited her to live with us, and Ben suggested hiring a caregiver, Lena, who was sweet, experienced, and trustworthy. The cost was \$1,000 a week, but Ben assured me she was worth it.
Lena started, and I noticed her strange behavior—being overly affectionate toward Ben, laughing at his jokes too much, and positioning herself near him. Sharon seemed uncomfortable, but when I asked, she only said, “She’s very attentive… to certain things.”
Lena didn’t seem to have medical skills and rushed through Sharon’s care. When I voiced my concerns, Ben became defensive, something he had never done before. That night, I realized how far he was pulling away. Then Sharon asked me to install cameras around the house, citing safety concerns. When I did, the footage revealed the truth—Lena was neglecting Sharon’s care and flirting with Ben, even exchanging touches.
The final blow came when I overheard Ben promising Lena the beach house, saying I was “clueless.” I didn’t confront him immediately but showed Sharon the footage. She was heartbroken, and we decided to act. At Sharon’s birthday party, she made a toast thanking Lena for her “service” and revealed the affair in front of everyone, saying, “That’s what you wanted to hear, right? After having an affair with my son?”
