When our golden retriever, Beau, wouldn’t stop barking at the nanny, we thought he was being jealous or territorial. We even considered rehoming him.
But one night, I checked the security footage—and everything changed.
Claire, the nanny we trusted with our newborn, was secretly livestreaming Zoey’s bedtime to strangers online. While she was distracted, Zoey began to choke in her crib—and Beau tried everything to get her attention, even snapping near her leg. It wasn’t aggression. He was trying to save our daughter.
Claire ignored him, then locked him out of the nursery.
We fired her immediately, reported her actions, and made sure she couldn’t hurt anyone else. Beau? He’s now Zoey’s official guardian. We even got him a collar tag that says so.
He wasn’t just our dog. He was warning us. He was protecting her.
And we’ll never take him for granted again.
