After my husband Charles passed away in an accident, I struggled to keep it together for my daughter Maggie. For three years, her smile was the only thing that kept me going, but the emptiness still lingered. Then Jacob entered our lives. He was warm, kind, and adored Maggie. Slowly, I let myself believe in happiness again. We got married two months ago, hoping he’d be the missing piece for our family.
But then Maggie told me something: Jacob had asked her to keep a secret. One day, she found him with a woman in a red dress in the basement. Jacob said it was an interior designer, but something felt off. When I checked his social media, I found a photo of him with that woman. I set up cameras and, sure enough, caught them kissing in the basement. Jacob had been cheating.
I confronted him, and the woman revealed they’d been together for years. Jacob admitted nothing. I kicked them both out. The next day, I focused on Maggie. I told her the truth about Jacob, and she smiled, relieved. I realized I didn’t need Jacob. I had Maggie, and together, we’d be okay. Losing the wrong person made room for the life we truly deserved.
