Alicia Leonardi, 42, Dies While Rescuing Her Ex-Boyfriend’s Dog

The Plaistow community in New Hampshire is mourning the tragic loss of 42-year-old Alicia Leonardi, who died on June 2, 2025, after being struck by a train while trying to save a dog. Leonardi had been walking near the Newfields Road trestle with her ex-boyfriend and his dog, Jackson, when the dog ran onto the tracks as an Amtrak train approached. Both she and her ex ran after it — Jackson survived, but Leonardi was killed; her ex sustained minor injuries.

Her mother, Cathleen Collis, described Alicia as a bubbly, loving person devoted to animals. Leonardi’s cousin, Joe Gatley, spoke of her resilience and recent personal progress. She had been working at a restaurant in Manchester and hoped to study skincare. Her 24-year-old daughter, Faith Bishop, expressed deep sorrow and shared memories of their close bond. A memorial service is planned for June 21 at Comeau Funeral Home in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

Local residents noted past train accidents in the area, prompting safety concerns. Authorities, including Exeter Police and Amtrak, are investigating. Leonardi’s family vows to keep her spirit alive, remembering her as selfless and full of love.
