My husband Jake and I always split everything 50/50—rent, utilities, groceries. But two weeks ago, over dinner, he dropped a bombshell: “I think you should start covering all the bills.”
He explained that if I took care of the day-to-day expenses, he could save more for our future. I was shocked, especially since I already handled most of the chores. But when I asked about it, he dismissed my concerns, claiming it was smart for our future.
A few days later, I received a call from Anna, Jake’s girlfriend, who told me Jake was using me to fund his life with her. She mocked me, claiming Jake deserved better. I was shaken, but decided to get even.
I pretended to agree with Jake’s proposal. Then, I drained our joint savings, canceled the utilities, and found a new place—without him. The next morning, he discovered everything was gone. I casually told him I was downsizing and moved into my new apartment. Jake’s reaction was priceless, especially when he saw Anna’s name pop up on his phone.
Two weeks later, I was enjoying my new, peaceful life while Jake struggled to find a place. I heard he was telling people I ruined his life, but I was relieved. I’d finally escaped his manipulation, and for the first time in years, I was free.
