Prince Philip had a horrible nickname for Meghan Markle

The British royal family’s relationships have always been complex. When Meghan Markle joined, opinions were divided, as many questioned Prince Harry’s choice of a divorced partner, but the royals accepted her warmly.

Years later, a royal commentator revealed that Prince Philip disliked Meghan, calling her “Duchess of Windsor,” a nickname linking her to Wallis Simpson, a controversial American divorcee who married King Edward VIII. Both women shared similar backgrounds, and Philip, skeptical of Meghan, saw her as comparable to Simpson.

Prince Philip believed Meghan’s impact could be problematic, though Queen Elizabeth had high hopes for her. After stepping down from royal duties, the Sussexes moved to California, but continued to share their story through interviews, a documentary, and Harry’s book, Spare.
