Donald Trump has made the Village People’s “YMCA” his unofficial campaign anthem, complete with hip sways and air punches that have become a viral sensation. While many supporters enjoy it, others find it bizarre — especially when politicians like Kristi Noem try to imitate it.
Trump admitted he never expected the dance to go viral, saying, “I try to walk off without dancing, but I can’t.”
Not everyone’s thrilled. The Village People have repeatedly asked for their song to stay out of politics, though they say anyone is free to dance to it.
Melania Trump called Donald’s dance “special and unique” in a Fox interview, noting he created it himself. On the 4th of July, she joined in briefly on the White House balcony, drawing mixed reactions — from praise about “joyful leadership” to criticism calling it “scripted theater.”
Some online even questioned their marriage, claiming their public life is all for show.
