Brenda is shocked when her late son’s wife, Harper, denies knowing her—and then sees Harper’s tombstone beside her son’s at the cemetery. Despite her confusion, Brenda’s sleuthing reveals no funeral visitors and suspicious cemetery staff.
When she confronts Jake—her son’s best friend and business partner—he reluctantly explains that Chris’s death led to financial ruin. Harper and he tried obtaining a $5 million loan to save the company. But Harper allegedly withdrew the funds, disappeared, and was later found dead in a burned car. Jake claims the funeral was well-attended, but Brenda knows otherwise.
Staying overnight at Jake’s, Brenda uncovers two fake passports and plane tickets: one with Harper’s photo under the alias “Sarah,” the other under a false identity for Jake. Realizing the pair planned to flee to London, she returns early morning with sleeping pills, drugging Jake.
When Harper arrives to wake him, Brenda confronts and knocks her out with a vase. The police arrive just in time—Brenda hands over the fake documents, and Jake and Harper are arrested. Eventually, Harper confesses, hoping for reduced charges.
