My Stepdad Excluded Me from Vacations and Showed Blatant Favoritism – Years Later, He Demanded $25K from Me for His Daughter’s House

When I was seven, Dad walked out, leaving Mom to raise Nick (then 12) and me. She comforted us by saying, “Sometimes grown-ups make bad choices,” but her low-paying jobs meant we often went without.

Two years later, Mom married Liam, who had two daughters—Cleo (11) and Emma (13). Our home became six, but not a real family. Although finances were “shared equally,” it was clear Liam’s income outweighed Mom’s, and his daughters got lavish treatment—trips, bedrooms, decorations—while Nick and I were ignored.

We learned to accept second-class status. Nick left for college at 18, urging me to follow. I did. I built my own life—no favoritism, no resentment.

At 28, a visit home turned everything upside-down. Liam demanded that Nick and I each contribute $25,000 to Cleo’s house deposit, threatening inheritance if we didn’t comply—yet another reminder we weren’t real family. I refused.

Mom and I then had a heart-wrenching talk. Terrified of being alone, she’d enabled Liam, sacrificing her kids. But when she revealed she’d secretly paid off 40% of the house using my grandmother’s inheritance, everything changed.

Liam tried to sell the house to fund Cleo’s purchase, but Mom’s ownership blocked the sale. Now, she plans to leave her share to us—her true family.
