Conflicts between daughters-in-law and mothers-in-law can easily arise, especially when living together. One woman recently shared how the tension with her mother-in-law has caused her serious emotional strain as she tries to maintain her independence and set boundaries.
She and her husband are staying with his parents to save money, but her MIL clearly dislikes her and is eager for them to move out. On her birthday, she received a Tiffany bracelet from her own mother. When her MIL saw the box, she grabbed it, tore it open, and exploded, accusing her of wasting money and claiming she deserved the jewelry for letting them live in her house.
Even after learning the gift wasn’t from the husband, the MIL refused to apologize and insisted the bracelet should be hers as “payment.” The woman says the hostility in her MIL’s eyes is unsettling, and lately the MIL has even been turning against her own son.
