Having good, responsible roommates is important, but some people aren’t so lucky. Here are a few of the worst roommate stories:
One roommate later discovered her housemate was schizophrenic after odd behavior—ignoring her, then thinking she saw an intruder who was actually herself. Feeling unsafe, she moved out.
Another place had three people sharing a kitchen. Only one cleaned, so trash and rot built up. A cleaning company was eventually called, and the other two were kicked out; she didn’t have to pay and even got compensation.
One roommate never helped clean and immediately made the kitchen messy again after it was spotless for a landlady visit. Another would dispose of her long hair in the sink, constantly clogging it.
There was a roommate who smelled badly despite claiming to shower twice daily, scammed others for money, and skipped bills. He was eventually kicked out. Another had undiagnosed OCD rituals like watching movie and music at full volume before a two-hour shower, which disrupted their shared room.
One roommate intentionally broke inherited porcelain dishes and blamed the owner. Another stocked the fridge with food, left for months, then complained when it rotted and was thrown out, even though she prepaid rent.
Yet another would throw away anything she deemed “dirty,” including others’ belongings, and demand replacements. And when she did dishes, she only rinsed them cold without soap, leaving the burden on others.
