We planned a peaceful honeymoon at a beautiful beach resort, envisioning romantic dinners and sunset walks. But our dream quickly fell apart when my in-laws surprised us by showing up — claiming they had “gifted” us the trip and booked a room right alongside ours.
From the first morning, they treated every activity as a group event: pounding on our door at sunrise, forcing early walks, joining every meal, and controlling what we did. Even simple requests for alone time were met with lectures about gratitude because “we paid for you to be here.”
Finally fed up, we pretended to be too sick to leave our room, then checked out, caught a flight to a secluded island we’d always wanted to visit, and left a note saying we needed time alone to reconnect.
