My best friend Jace (34M), a truck driver, visits about once a month. This time was his first meeting with my girlfriend, and I was excited because I thought they’d get along great. At first, everything was fun — we laughed, shared stories, and it seemed like they were hitting it off. I even started picturing us all becoming close.
Then my mom called about a burst pipe, so I had to leave them alone for about an hour to help her. When I returned, the mood was completely off. Jace and my girlfriend sat in silence on opposite ends of the couch. She seemed distant and quickly went to bed, acting like nothing was wrong.
The next day she avoided Jace entirely. I hoped it was just awkwardness, but it was clear something had happened. Later, when Jace was out shopping, she told me she wants him gone immediately. When I asked why, she tearfully confessed that he made a move on her while I was gone.
