My Sister Moved In, And I Regret Everything!

My Sister Moved In, and I Regret It

I’m a 40-year-old widower. Two months ago my 34-year-old sister and her two kids (7 and 4) moved in after a rough breakup. I thought I was doing the right thing with my big house and plenty of space.

At first it seemed fine, though she slept until 1 p.m. most days. I made extra breakfast for the kids, which I enjoyed—it gave me purpose after my wife died. But soon the kids started complaining about what I cooked and demanded cereal instead.

I asked them to talk to their mom, but she stayed in bed all morning, never helping. I began to feel she was taking advantage of me. One night I checked the security cameras and was shocked to see her sneaking out every night from about 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The next morning I overheard her on the phone saying, “Yeah, he’s still buying it… a few more days,” and realized she wasn’t struggling to recover—she was deceiving me. I felt betrayed.
