Lily (5) and Jack (4) stayed with me for four nights while Ethan and Sarah were away. I initially hesitated, feeling it was a lot to ask, especially since Sarah often prioritizes her family over ours. However, Ethan’s heartfelt plea convinced me.
During their absence, I was invited to a Disney World birthday party and decided to take the kids, thinking it would be a wonderful experience. I didn’t consult Ethan and Sarah, assuming it wouldn’t be an issue since Sarah had only casually mentioned wanting to take them “someday.”
When they returned, Sarah was devastated, accusing me of stealing a milestone moment—her kids’ first Disney trip. She called me entitled, which stung, especially given my initial reluctance to babysit. Ethan asked me to apologize, but I felt my efforts were being overlooked and saw no reason to apologize for making memories with my grandkids.
The situation has caused a major rift, and I’m left wondering if this is about more than just Disney—perhaps it’s about boundaries, respect, and understanding. I want to mend things, but I’m struggling to see if I was truly in the wrong. What do you think?
