Once thought “unlucky” and cursed, the $2 bill might actually bring luck—and even thousands of dollars.
Long overlooked, it’s far less common than $1 or $20 bills, with just 1.6 billion in circulation in 2023. Superstitions once made people rip corners off to reverse a “jinx,” and it was even called ill-starred in a 1925 New York Times article.
Despite this, $2 bills can be valuable. First printed in 1862, they feature Thomas Jefferson since 1869, with the back showing Monticello or the Declaration of Independence.
Collectors pay big money for rare notes: uncirculated 1862–1896 bills can fetch $5,000, used ones up to $1,100, and some with fancy serial numbers can reach $6,000.
