Kiea McCann, 17, and her best friend Dlava Mohammed, 16, were killed near Clones, Co. Monaghan, Ireland, on July 31, 2023, while on their way to prom. Three others were in the car.
Hours earlier, the girls posed for photos—Kiea in a red dress, Dlava in blue—full of excitement for the night. Their families shared the images, expressing heartbreak.
They were driven by 61-year-old family friend Anthony McGinn, who allegedly sped nearly double the 50mph limit despite pleas to slow down. Kiea’s date, Oisin Clerkin, also begged him to drive safely.
McGinn pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the girls’ deaths and injuries to Dlava’s sister. He received a 15-year driving ban.
Kiea’s parents described the devastating aftermath—Kiea and Dlava were found holding hands, their lives tragically cut short.
