Mouth cancer (oral cancer) is one of the most common head and neck cancers, often affecting people over 40 and more frequently men. This year, over 77,000 new cases and 52,000 deaths were reported in India, highlighting the urgent need for awareness. The good news: early detection greatly improves survival, especially before the cancer spreads.
Oral cancer can affect the lips, tongue, gums, cheeks, and floor of the mouth. Dentists recommend checkups at least twice a year, especially for smokers and alcohol users, who face higher risk.
Warning signs include sores that don’t heal, bleeding, loose teeth, jaw pain, trouble swallowing, numbness, weight loss, or red/white patches in the mouth. If symptoms last more than two weeks, see a doctor or dentist immediately.
Regular dental visits, quitting tobacco, and limiting alcohol can lower your risk. Early detection saves lives and improves quality of life. Share this to spread awareness.
