We Paid for My Stepdaughter’s Honeymoon, but She Called It ‘Cheap’ — She Learned a Valuable Lesson

When my stepdaughter Brooke got married, my husband Gary and I paid for a beautiful vineyard wedding and a luxury honeymoon villa. It wasn’t easy financially, but we wanted to give her a wonderful start.

The morning after arriving, Brooke called—not to thank us, but to complain. She said the villa was too small, the pool wasn’t big enough, and the beach was too far away. Gary was deeply hurt, so I decided to teach her a lesson about gratitude.

I called the resort and moved them to a simple hotel room with no luxury features. Later, Brooke called again, angry about the downgrade. I calmly explained that since the villa wasn’t good enough, we thought a simpler place might suit her better.

After a few days, Brooke called back with a completely different tone. She apologized and admitted she hadn’t appreciated the effort and love behind the wedding and honeymoon. Staying in the modest hotel made her realize how special the villa had been.

Gary and I accepted her apology. In the end, Brooke learned the value of gratitude—and our family grew stronger.
