Under the cedar tree, I enjoyed the breeze with baby Sofia in my arms. Despite being my sister-in-law Fiona’s child, my love for her felt just like a mother’s.
David had painted a grim picture of his distant family, so Fiona and Sofia moving nearby was a surprise. But their presence brought unexpected joy.
While having a picnic, Fiona jokingly offered to take Sofia back, but I insisted, holding her tighter. Later, while changing Sofia, I noticed a birthmark on her back that was identical to David’s. My mind raced with suspicions about David and Fiona’s true relationship.
Later that night, as I helped David after his shower, I couldn’t stop thinking about the matching birthmarks. The possibility of him lying to me crushed me.
I decided to get a DNA test between Sofia and David. As Fiona visited, I secretly gathered DNA samples. The waiting for results only increased my unease.
Eventually, during a tense moment, I confronted David and Fiona, accusing them of lying about Sofia’s paternity after noticing the birthmarks. Their silence confirmed my fears, and I fled.
The next day, I took a pregnancy test, only to find out I was pregnant, adding to the turmoil I was already feeling.
Determined to get answers, I returned home and confronted David. He denied any affair, but I was determined to leave. Fiona then revealed that the birthmarks were a family trait, and Sofia’s father had died before she was born.
David explained that he had only stepped in as a father figure for Sofia. After a DNA test, we discovered David was not Sofia’s father, and I felt relief.
Back home, apologies flowed. David and Fiona were understanding, and I was relieved to know my family was still intact. Months later, I gave birth to a baby boy named Zack, and the love and support of my family felt more solid than ever.
