NASA astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore recently shared how his faith helped him endure a challenging nine-month mission on the ISS. Despite unexpected delays, including a technical issue with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, which extended the mission beyond its original timeframe, Wilmore found peace in his Christianity.
Wilmore, who launched on June 5, 2023, with astronaut Sunita Williams, relied on his belief in Jesus Christ for strength. He said, “It all works out for those that will believe,” expressing confidence in God’s plan. Before liftoff, Wilmore and Williams prayed with launchpad technicians, a testament to their unwavering faith.
After the mission’s unexpected extension, Wilmore’s family found peace in God’s plan. His daughter Daryn and wife Deanna both spoke about their trust in God’s purpose, even amidst uncertainty. Wilmore’s return, finally completed on June 13, 2023, also attracted attention, including from former President Trump, who urged action to bring the astronauts home.
Reflecting on the mission, Wilmore emphasized that both the joyful and difficult moments of life have a divine purpose.
