At almost nine months pregnant, cleaning was exhausting, but the mess was too much to ignore. My back and swollen feet ached, and dust taunted me.

I messaged my friend Katherine, who advised me to check his things. Reluctantly, I searched his closet and found the lingerie, feeling shaken. When I texted Aaron, he didn’t respond. I cried, unsure how to fix my marriage.
The next morning, Aaron was gone. I found a plate of food on the counter and shredded hospital bills in the trash. I waited, ready to confront him.
