Lauren Wasser, a model from California, developed toxic shock syndrome (TSS) in 2012 after using tampons, which led to a life-threatening infection. She initially thought she had the flu, but her condition rapidly worsened, causing organ failure and forcing doctors to amputate her right leg. Years later, complications led to the loss of her second leg as well.
She now speaks publicly about her experience, warning women about the rare but serious risks of TSS and encouraging awareness of symptoms and proper hygiene practices. After surviving the ordeal, she turned her recovery into advocacy, fighting for better transparency and safety in feminine hygiene products while rebuilding her life and career.
