I’m Cassie, 35, married to Ben, 38, for seven years. We don’t have kids due to my health issues, but we built a life I was proud of. Ben, in real estate, was always caring—especially during my endometriosis diagnosis. On our fifth anniversary, he even recreated our first date.
A few months ago, Ben’s mom Sharon had a mild stroke. We invited her to live with us. When balancing care and work got tough, Ben suggested hiring a caregiver—someone he’d already met: Lena, 28, sweet and “perfect.”
Lena started part-time. Though polite, she lacked basic caregiving skills and was oddly close to Ben. Sharon seemed uncomfortable. One day, she asked me to install cameras “for safety.” What we saw was shocking—Lena neglecting her duties and yelling at Sharon. Worse, Ben visited during the day, and they were clearly having an affair.
I watched more footage, including a conversation where Ben promised Lena the beach house. “Cassie’s clueless,” he said. Furious, I showed Sharon the videos. Together, we planned her birthday party at that very house.
During her toast, Sharon praised Lena—then exposed the affair in front of everyone. I showed screenshots and played their beach house conversation. Lena fled. Ben stammered excuses. “Save it,” I told him. “I’ve called a lawyer.”
Ben moved out. I filed for divorce. Lena was fired, and Sharon updated her will to cut them both out.
